Hiya!
For today's post, I have decided to rank the all the books in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series and I have to admit, it wasn't as difficult as I had thought it would be. So, without wasting much time, let's dive straight into the ranking list:-
1. The Last Olympian
This book served as the perfect ending to the series tying down everything perfectly and even gave hints to what would happen in the Heroes of Olympus series! The climax was also pretty satisfying with elements of tragedy mixed with the victory. Both father and son duos shined in the end and the scene where Zeus had to thank them was hilarious. I also really liked how everything wasn’t how it seemed- the true meaning of the prophecy, the traitor, etc. And the Last Olympian? Going into the book, I never would have guessed who it would have been but when it was revealed, I had almost saluted uncle Rick. Though some people may not like it, I was totally here for the plot, characters, and witty dialogue and I got what I wanted including a not-so-pure-happy ending as happy endings are not always found.
2. The Battle Of The Labyrinth
It has mystery, suspense, and action perfectly blended in. It also ties well quite a few aspects from past few books like Rachel. Initially, I was skeptical about the main setting of the book being the Labyrinth but then when it really started going, I enjoyed it too. The labyrinth and Daedalus were interestingly portrayed. More pieces of the puzzle were added as we got more and more closer to the end. At points it did feel like it was edging towards being over-complicated but the issues weren’t much bothersome.
3. The Lightning Thief
The main reason is that this is the first book of the series. If it hadn’t been that good, then I would probably have never continued with the rest of the series. However, it ranks third also because of the same fact. The thrill and stakes weren’t as high in other books. The characters were all new to me too. And it also did a huge thing. It redeemed the name of PERCY! Comment below if you understand the reference.
4. The Titan’s Curse
It is hailed as the book that showed the darker end of the things and had especially high emotional stakes as well as deaths. It wasn’t a bad book necessarily but it wasn’t very memorable for me either except the introduction of Rachel Elizabeth Dare. I enjoyed this book but I got a bit bored with the whole saving mission as it was becoming a cliché to me through the series. Also, I remember being irritated by Thalia too much. The main reason, however, was that we never came to know why Annabeth wanted to join the Hunters? That’s why this book (true, by a small margin) secures the Second-last spot.
5. The Sea Of Monsters
So, a lot of people rate it as the worst book of the main series. To say that I disagree with that assessment would be grossly inaccurate. The emotional stakes weren’t very high and also that Grover-Cyclops situation made me roll my eyes more often than I would have liked. My favorite part of this book was TYSON! Although this is not as good as book one in my opinion, it's still full of adventures and a a bit boring quest.
*Honestly, I was dilly-dallying quite a bit regarding the 4th and 5th positions. When I had first the series, I had disliked both TSOM and TC; TSOM mainly because of its plot and TC because of the characterization of Thalia. Initially, I had ended up ranking TSOM 4th and TC 5th. But Looks like I have changed my mind. Ha!*
